Peru economy shows mixed growth with rising mining exports and 3.56% GDP increase

Peru's economic landscape shows mixed results for mid-2026. The GDP grew by 3.56% in July, driven by construction and commerce, though the fishing sector saw a sharp 27.44% contraction due to low anchoveta catches.

The mining sector remains a critical pillar. Traditional exports, led by copper, gold, and silver, grew by 13.2% in July. Companies like Antamina and Las Bambas continue to emphasize social investment and leadership training, while Metso announced a €25 million investment in Arequipa to double its service capacity by 2027.

In agriculture, olive exports reached US$ 30.8 million in the first half of the year, with Brazil serving as the primary market. However, non-traditional exports to Hong Kong fell by 31.4%, prompting calls for greater market diversification through new free trade agreements.
