Mining workers end Ankara protest after wage agreement
Mining workers affiliated with the Bağımsız Maden-İş union have ended their protest in Ankara following an agreement with Yıldızlar SSS Holding. The workers, employed at Doruk Maden and Eti Maden, had been protesting for 17 days to demand unpaid wages, severance, and other labor entitlements.
The union reached a decision to terminate the protest after the first installment of the owed amounts was deposited into workers' accounts. The remaining balance is scheduled to be paid in three additional installments over the next 40 days.
The protest also highlighted the arrest of Bağımsız Maden-İş General President Gökay Çakır and organizing specialist Başaran Aksu. Multiple unions, including 16 branches of DİSK, issued joint statements condemning the arrests as an attack on labor rights and union activities, calling for their immediate release.
