Minister B. Nagendra faces removal demands in Karnataka

Opposition parties BJP and JD(S) have intensified demands for the removal of Karnataka Minister B. Nagendra from the state cabinet following allegations of financial irregularities in the Maharshi Valmiki Scheduled Tribes Development Corporation. The protests, which included slogans and disruptions in both the Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council, have stalled monsoon session proceedings.

Opposition Leader R. Ashoka and JD(S) MLA H. D. Revanna have called for a united agitation, accusing the state government of corruption. They allege that significant funds, with estimates ranging from Rs 184 crore to Rs 187 crore, were siphoned from the corporation.

Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar rejected the demands, describing the opposition's actions as political drama. He defended Nagendra's re-induction into the cabinet, stating that the minister has no direct involvement in the alleged scam and noting that a significant portion of the disputed funds has already been recovered.

Minister B. Nagendra has denied the allegations, claiming he is being targeted due to his Dalit identity and political affiliation. He noted that he has received legal relief and that the courts have not convicted him of any offense.
