Minister Juan Castillo postpones Senate hearing on port conflict

Juan Castillo, the Minister of Labor and Social Security, postponed his scheduled appearance before the Senate's Transport and Public Works Commission. The hearing was intended to address the government's management of the recent conflict at the port of Montevideo.

The Ministry stated the postponement was due to “agenda issues” and the fact that details regarding a new collective agreement are still being finalized. This agreement follows a preliminary deal reached between Terminal Cuenca del Plata and workers after months of negotiations.

The delay has political implications, as the National Party intended to hear Castillo's explanations before deciding whether to support an interpellation proposed by the Colorado Party. The Colorado Party's Adrián Juri had called for the interpellation to address the port conflict and general labor unrest.
