Minister Obayashi inspects Typhoon 25 damage in Chiba

Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Tatsunori Obayashi visited disaster sites in Chiba Prefecture on October 4 to inspect damage caused by Typhoon 25. The inspection included the Inbanuma area, where a levee breach caused flooding, and sections of the JR Uchibo Line affected by sediment runoff.

At Inbanuma, emergency repairs are ongoing. Following the completion of a temporary earthen levee, workers are installing steel plates to reinforce the structure. Minister Obayashi emphasized the need to investigate the causes of the levee breach to prevent future occurrences.

Regarding transportation, repairs to the JR Uchibo Line between Anegasaki and Nagaura are expected to take approximately three months. Substitute bus services are scheduled to begin on October 5.

The death toll from Typhoon 25 in Chiba Prefecture has reached 10 people. To support recovery efforts, Minister Obayashi announced that the deployment of TEC-FORCE, a specialized disaster response unit, will be strengthened.
