Minister Urso calls for extraordinary plan for Taranto steel industry

Adolfo Urso, the Italian Minister of Enterprises and Made in Italy, has called for an extraordinary plan for Taranto to address the social, productive, and employment crisis triggered by the closure of the hot area following a Court of Appeal ruling.

In an interview, Urso noted that the Federacciai board is meeting to evaluate the possibility of an Italian consortium presenting a proposal in the ongoing bidding process, alongside competitors Jindal and Flacks.

The Minister also emphasized that funds for the Zes Unica will not be reduced and that the government intends to increase investments in Southern Italy through the upcoming Budget Law. Furthermore, Urso is working with the Conference of Regions to implement industrial acceleration areas under the new Industrial Accelerator Act, targeting sectors such as steel, automotive, green technologies, and digital technologies.
