Ministry of Education authorizes new university courses in Brazil

The Brazilian Ministry of Education (MEC) has authorized the creation of new undergraduate courses at four federal universities located outside major urban centers. This measure, formalized through Ordinance Seres/MEC nº 409/2026, aims to expand access to public higher education and promote academic opportunities in the country's interior.

In Minas Gerais, the Universidade Federal de Ouro Preto (Ufop) will offer 100 vacancies for a law bachelor's degree at its Ipatinga Campus. In Paraná, the Universidade Federal da Fronteira Sul (UFFS) has been authorized to provide 54 vacancies for a law degree at the Laranjeiras do Sul Campus.

In Piauí, the Universidade Federal do Piauí (Ufpi) will offer 200 vacancies for a pedagogy licensure program in the municipality of Floriano. Additionally, the Fundação Universidade Federal de Rondônia (Unir) will implement three new courses: civil engineering in Ji-Paraná, commercial management in Presidente Médici, and information technology management in Cacoal.
