Ministry of Health deploys mobile medical units across Brazil
The Brazilian Ministry of Health is deploying mobile health units across various regions to reduce waiting times for specialized medical services under the 'Agora Tem Especialistas' program.
In southern Bahia, specifically in Itabuna, a mobile unit dedicated to women's health is providing diagnostic services for breast and cervical cancer. The unit offers mammographies, ultrasounds, and biopsies. According to Joanna Paroli, the Ministry of Health superintendent in Bahia, the unit detected cancerous lesions in approximately 20% to 30% of patients examined during its first three weeks in the region.
In Mato Grosso do Sul, a mobile unit in Campo Grande is performing up to 120 procedures daily, including X-rays and CT scans, to assist patients who have been on waiting lists for months or years. The Ministry plans to expand these services to all 79 municipalities in the state by the end of the year. Other specialized mobile units are also operating, including one focused on eye health and cataract surgeries.
