Ministry of Health deploys mobile units for women's health in Brazil

The Brazilian Ministry of Health is deploying mobile health units through the ‘Agora Tem Especialistas’ program to expand specialized care for women. These mobile units are equipped to provide diagnostic services and consultations, focusing primarily on the early detection and prevention of breast and cervical cancers.

In Ariquemes, Rondônia, the mobile unit provides services such as mammographies, pelvic and transvaginal ultrasounds, biopsies, and specialist consultations. The unit serves residents of Ariquemes and six other municipalities in the Vale do Jamari region. To date, the unit in Ariquemes has performed 1,400 consultations and 1,700 exams.

In Dourados, Mato Grosso do Sul, the mobile unit serves the local population and patients from 33 other cities. The program aims to reduce waiting lists within the Unified Health System (SUS). Across twelve municipalities in the state that have already received these units, a total of 4,900 people have been treated and 10,100 procedures have been performed.

Access to these services is restricted to patients who have been pre-scheduled and referred by their respective municipal health secretariats. Individuals awaiting exams through the SUS can request a referral at their local Basic Health Unit.
