Ministry of Health launches vaccination mission in Amazonas indigenous communities

The Brazilian Ministry of Health is conducting the final stage of the ‘Operação Gota’ in the Médio Rio Purus region of Amazonas. Running until September 20, the mission aims to provide vaccinations to 22 indigenous villages in the municipalities of Lábrea, Canuma, and Tapauá.

In this phase, authorities expect to administer 2,300 doses to children, adults, the elderly, and pregnant women. The vaccines provided include those from the National Vaccination Calendar of the Unified Health System (SUS), covering diseases such as tuberculosis, hepatitis, polio, influenza, Covid-19, yellow fever, measles, and HPV, among others.

Due to the difficult access of these remote communities, the operation is carried out in partnership with the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) using exclusively aerial logistics. So far in 2026, the operation has reached 121 villages, vaccinating 8,400 indigenous people with 14,000 doses applied.
