Ministry of Health deploys mobile women's health unit in Petrolina
The Brazilian Ministry of Health has deployed a mobile medical unit to Petrolina, Pernambuco, to provide specialized women's health services. Part of the ‘Agora Tem Especialistas’ program, the mobile unit is equipped to offer early diagnosis for breast and cervical cancer.
Operating Monday through Friday, the unit can perform up to 120 appointments daily. Services include mammographies, pelvic and transvaginal ultrasounds, biopsies, and specialist consultations. The initiative aims to reduce waiting times for SUS patients by providing a complete diagnostic cycle, from initial imaging to biopsy and specialist referral.
In addition to Petrolina, the service extends to patients from Afrânio, Cabrobó, Dormentes, Lagoa Grande, Orocó, Santa Maria, and the indigenous population of Truká. Mozart Sales, Secretary of Specialized Health Attention at the Ministry of Health, noted that Pernambuco currently hosts five mobile units, including specialized vehicles for women's health, ophthalmology, and tomography.
