Ministry of Health outlines medical training guidelines for SUS
At the 64th Brazilian Congress of Medical Education (COBEM) in Porto Alegre, the Ministry of Health outlined new guidelines for medical training aimed at supporting the Unified Health System (SUS). Representatives from the Secretariat of Labor Management and Health Education (SGTES) emphasized that medical curricula should prioritize primary care, family health, and high-quality preceptorship.
To ensure these standards, officials called for permanent coordination between the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Education, and academic institutions. The goal is to integrate daily medical practice into the public health network from the early years of undergraduate studies and to prevent low-quality training through rigorous course evaluations. Felipe Proenço, Secretary of SGTES, noted that medical education must align with the concrete needs of the population and the specific demands of the SUS.
