Ministry of Women Empowerment responds to fatal Pemalang bullying case

The Indonesian Ministry of Women Empowerment and Child Protection (Kemen PPPA) has responded to a fatal bullying case in Pemalang, Central Java, where a seven-year-old student died following an incident involving older students.

As part of a resolution outside the formal judicial process under the Juvenile Criminal Justice System Law, the children involved have been assigned six months of coaching at the Antasena Social Welfare Institution (LPKS) in Magelang. Ciput Eka Purwianti, Assistant Deputy for the Provision of Services for Children Requiring Special Protection, stated that this measure serves as both accountability and an educational tool to teach children that actions resulting in loss of life carry legal consequences.

The Pekalongan Correctional Center (Bapas) will provide assistance and supervision during the coaching period. The Ministry emphasized the need for schools and families to collaborate in creating safe educational environments and highlighted the importance of strengthening the implementation of regulations regarding safe school cultures.
