Minnesota sues Texas Governor Abbott over ICE agent extradition

Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison has filed a lawsuit against Texas Governor Greg Abbott regarding the extradition of Christian Castro, an ICE agent. Castro was arrested in Texas in May and is currently being held in the Cameron County Jail. Minnesota is seeking his return to face assault charges related to a shooting that occurred inside a Minneapolis home.

Governor Abbott has expressed refusal to respond to the extradition request, citing a lack of trust in Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. The legal dispute is intensified by a Texas law that limits how long a fugitive can remain jailed while awaiting extradition; the 90-day deadline for Castro could arrive as early as August 26.
