Minnesota teen accused of Mall of America terror plot to remain jailed
An 18-year-old Minnesota man, Sheikhdoon Abdullahi Mohamud, will remain in custody after a federal judge ruled he poses a danger to the community and is a flight risk. Mohamud is accused of plotting a terrorist attack at the Mall of America.
Authorities state that Mohamud, an American citizen of Somali descent, had been under FBI observation since December 2024. He was arrested on October 6 in Richfield after meeting with an undercover FBI employee. During the encounter, he allegedly paid $600 for an AK-47, 200 rounds of ammunition, and four magazines.
Prosecutors allege the planned attack was intended for October 24 to coincide with a Hmong community arts celebration at the mall. FBI agents testified that Mohamud intended to cause mass casualties and pledged allegiance to the Islamic State during his arrest.
