Minnesota THC beverage sales grow amid potential federal ban
The hemp-derived THC beverage market is experiencing significant growth in Minnesota, despite the possibility of a federal ban later this year. Since THC products became legal in the state in June 2023, retailers have reported robust sales across various formats, including seltzers, iced teas, and gummies.
At Top Ten Liquors, THC beverage sales have increased by approximately 12% year-to-date through August, while the broader THC department, including edibles, has grown nearly 20%. The category now accounts for roughly 15% of the company’s total sales, making it their fourth-largest department behind beer, spirits, and wine.
Retailers like Surdyk’s Liquor & Cheese Shop in Minneapolis are actively promoting products through tastings and digital advertising. Consumers are increasingly integrating THC products into their lifestyles, often choosing them as alternatives to alcohol or non-alcoholic cocktails during social gatherings.
