Minnesota Zoo Celebrates Canada Lynx Kittens After Mother’s Death
The Minnesota Zoo announced the birth of three Canada lynx kittens earlier this spring, a rare event for accredited zoos that supports the species’ conservation. The mother, a lynx named Torvi, died weeks after giving birth from a rare medical condition. Zoo staff provided round‑the‑clock care for the 10‑week‑old kittens, who are now exploring, eating independently and gaining trust with caretakers.
One kitten has been transferred to another AZA‑accredited zoo to serve as an ambassador for wildlife education, while the remaining two, Freya and Ingrid, will be introduced to the public at the Minnesota Zoo later this summer.
