Minnesota Zoo welcomes Canada lynx kittens and a porcupette

The Minnesota Zoo announced the birth of three Canada lynx kittens on May 14. The first‑time parents, Torvi and Cad Bane, welcomed two female cubs named Freya and Ingrid and a male cub that has since been transferred to another zoo. Torvi developed a rare medical condition after giving birth and was euthanized.

A North American porcupette was born at the zoo on July 21. The baby, weighing about 500 g, was reported by the zoo under the name Maple, though a public debut date has not been set. Both the lynx kittens and the porcupette are part of the zoo’s conservation and education programs.

The zoo highlighted the importance of the rare native Canada lynx species in Minnesota and noted the ongoing care provided to the newborn animals.
