Dominican Republic Supreme Electoral Tribunal reserves ruling on 33 minority parties

The Dominican Republic’s Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) has reserved its ruling on a legal challenge seeking to revoke the legal status of 33 minority political parties. The lawsuit, filed by Proyecto Visión Nación (PVN) and Dr. José Cristopher Ramírez, argues that these organizations should lose their legal recognition and public funding because they failed to secure at least 1% of the vote in the 2024 elections.

During a marathon hearing, representatives from the affected parties defended their right to maintain their legal personality and access to public resources. The Central Electoral Board (JCE) supported the motion to exclude PVN from the process, arguing that the group lacks the necessary legal standing to act in this matter.

Presiding judge Ygnacio Pascual Camacho Hidalgo has granted all parties a 10-day period to submit final justificatory writings. Once this period concludes, the tribunal will move to a reserved decision. The legal action cites Article 75 of Law 33-18, which outlines the consequences for political organizations that do not meet minimum voting thresholds.
