Miquel Cortés reports intimidation in Comptroller General selection process
Miquel Cortés, president of the Nomination Commission for the election of the Comptroller General of Accounts (CGC) for the 2026-2030 period, has reported instances of intimidation, defamation, and pressure aimed at influencing the selection process.
During a permanent working session, Cortés, who is also the rector of Universidad Rafael Landívar, urged commission members to remain focused and avoid being “contaminated” by external opinions or provocative messages. He described these attempts as efforts by certain sectors to interfere with democratic processes and pressure the commission into selecting specific candidates.
The commission is currently tasked with evaluating 40 applicants to establish a final list of six candidates. This list will be submitted to the Congress of the Republic for the final election of the Comptroller General.
