Mir Raza Ali murder case: Forensic findings trigger judicial inquiry
The investigation into the death of Karachi businessman Mir Raza Ali has escalated following the exhumation of his body and a second post-mortem examination. The medical report revealed that Ali was shot from behind, with the bullet exiting through his chest, and showed signs of torture and multiple injuries to his head, face, and neck. This forensic evidence has led police to convert the initial kidnapping case into a murder investigation under Section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code.
In response to the findings, the Sindh government has announced the formation of a judicial commission, to be headed by High Court judges, to oversee the inquiry. Simultaneously, a new five-member police investigation team has been established, led by DIG Amir Farooqi.
While the government moves toward a judicial inquiry, the victim's father, Mir Hussain, has rejected the proposal for a judicial commission, stating that the family has confidence in the newly appointed police team. Meanwhile, authorities have detained six guesthouse employees and four other individuals in connection with the case, and a local guesthouse has been sealed as part of the ongoing probe.
