Mir Raza Ali investigation: Forensic mismatch and crypto records emerge

Investigators in the death of businessman Mir Raza Ali have revealed that a bullet shell recovered from the crime scene in Karachi does not match the pistol belonging to a security guard. While initial police theories suggested suicide, a second postmortem report following the exhumation of Ali’s body confirmed he died from a gunshot wound that entered through his back and exited through his chest, a finding inconsistent with suicide.

In a parallel development, Karachi police have obtained four years of cryptocurrency trading records linked to Ali through the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency. The records indicate Ali had been trading cryptocurrency futures on Binance. These digital assets and WhatsApp details are being examined to assist the investigation.

A judicial commission, chaired by Sindh High Court Justice Omar Sial, is overseeing the case. The commission has questioned police regarding the handling of evidence and the timing of shell recovery. The investigation has seen significant shifts, including the transfer of the case to the Zaman Town police station and the issuance of notices to high-ranking officials following concerns over the initial probe.
