Mirabai Chanu wins third consecutive Commonwealth Games gold

Weightlifter Mirabai Chanu secured her third consecutive Commonwealth Games gold medal in the women's 48kg category at the 2026 Glasgow games. Following the event, Chanu met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, where she shared that her emotional reaction during the national anthem was due to the personal challenges she faced over the previous four years, including injuries and family issues, as well as missing a medal at the Paris Olympics.

Looking ahead, Chanu has identified a medal at the 2026 Asian Games as her primary target to complete her major international honors. Alongside national coach Vijay Sharma, she plans to maintain her current training program with a specific emphasis on injury prevention to ensure she remains physically prepared for the upcoming continental competition.
