Mirabai Chanu targets first Asian Games medal

Chanu is now focused on securing her first Asian Games medal at the upcoming competition in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. She has characterized the event as being on an ‘Olympics’ level due to the presence of strong nations such as China, North Korea, Thailand, and Japan.

To prepare and manage previous hip and back injuries, Chanu is following a strict training and recovery regimen with national coach Vijay Sharma. This includes weekly video consultations with American strength coach Dr. Aaron Horschig to manage her conditioning. While she is also strategizing a potential move to the 53kg category for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, her immediate priority remains the Asian Games in late September.
