Mirae Asset targets 150 trillion won digital asset business

Mirae Asset Group Chairman Park Hyeon-joo has announced a major strategic expansion into digital assets, aiming to grow the sector to 150 trillion won (approximately $108 billion) as part of the group’s ‘Mirae Asset 3.0’ vision. The group intends to achieve profitability in this division by 2027.

Central to this plan is Digital X, the newly rebranded entity following Mirae Asset’s acquisition of a 97.15% stake in the cryptocurrency exchange Korbit. Digital X will serve as a hub for four primary areas: cryptocurrencies, stablecoins, real-world assets (RWA), and security token offerings (STO). The group plans to digitize physical assets such as gold, silver, and electricity using blockchain technology.

During an event in Seoul, Park also addressed broader economic topics, emphasizing that corporate growth should prioritize capital accumulation and reinvestment over high dividend payouts. He argued that reinvesting profits into future growth is more vital for long-term company value than distributing small percentages as dividends. Additionally, Park expressed optimism regarding potential U.S. tariffs on South Korea, suggesting that the global reliance on Korean semiconductors would mitigate severe trade impacts.
