Mirae Asset digital finance and investment strategy
Overview
Mirae Asset Group Chairman Park Hyeon-joo has expanded the group’s strategic vision through the ‘Mirae Asset 3.0’ initiative, aiming to grow its digital asset business to 150 trillion won (approximately $108 billion). The group intends to achieve profitability in this sector by 2027.
Central to this expansion is Digital X, the rebranded entity following Mirae Asset’s acquisition of a 97.15% stake in the cryptocurrency exchange Korbit. Digital X is positioned as a hub for cryptocurrencies, stablecoins, real-world assets (RWA), and security token offerings (STO). The group plans to utilize blockchain technology to digitize physical assets, including gold, silver, and electricity.
To support this transformation into a global investment platform, the group plans to facilitate a capital increase of approximately 200 to 300 billion won for Digital X in early 2027.
Park has also issued sharp critiques of current industry practices, specifically targeting the high volume of altcoins on Korean exchanges. Remarking on the presence of approximately 300 altcoins, Park stated, “I think this is a scam.” He advocated for stricter listing standards, improved investor protection, and a diversified, venture-capital-style investment approach. Park warned against high-risk, loan-funded concentrations in digital assets, suggesting investors limit crypto exposure to roughly one-tenth of their total assets to avoid potentially ruinous outcomes.
