Mirelys Uceta criticizes protection gaps for women in Dominican Republic

Mirelys Uceta, the newly elected Secretary of Women for the Social Christian Reformist Party (PRSC), has raised concerns regarding the effectiveness of state protection mechanisms for women and girls in the Dominican Republic.

Uceta highlighted the persistence of femicides and violence against women, adolescents, and girls as evidence of significant challenges in equality, security, and the guarantee of rights. She argued that the current issues stem from deficiencies in public policy and a lack of female representation in state decision-making processes.

To address these issues, Uceta announced plans to travel throughout the country to promote political participation among women and foster debates regarding their rights. She stated that the party is studying the root causes of gender-based violence to formulate specific proposals aimed at preventing femicides and strengthening institutional protection mechanisms.
