Mirza Duran receives 43‑year sentence for murder of Nadira Sahačić in Sarajevo

The Supreme Court of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina confirmed the first‑instance judgment that sentenced Mirza Duran to 43 years in prison for the brutal killing of 60‑year‑old Nadira Sahačić. The murder occurred in the Ciglane neighbourhood of Sarajevo between the night of 18 and 19 August 2024, when Duran broke into the victim’s apartment and repeatedly stabbed her with a knife, inflicting over 80 injuries.

The court rejected all appeals from Duran’s defense and from the victim’s representatives, upholding the earlier decision of the Cantonal Court in Sarajevo dated 9 September 2025. Duran was found guilty under article 166 (2) a) of the Federation’s Criminal Code. The verdict became final, and the victim’s son discovered her body in the apartment, prompting police involvement.
