Mission and Chilliwack candidates launch bids for municipal council seats
Sharon Sandhu announced on August 4 that she will run for a seat on Mission City Council in the October 17 municipal election. She highlighted priorities such as safer neighbourhoods, greater transparency, stronger recreation programs, more opportunities for children and youth, and infrastructure that matches the city’s growth. Sandhu cited over a decade of experience in financial management, disability case management and project leadership at Canadian banks, as well as volunteer work with BC Children’s Hospital and Canadian Blood Services.
Former Chilliwack councillor Sue Knott also announced on August 4 her intention to seek a council seat in the same October election. Knott, who served 14 years on council and now leads the Chilliwack Hospice Society, emphasized keeping taxes affordable, maintaining fiscal responsibility, and delivering core services efficiently. She called for continued focus on public safety, addiction and mental‑health treatment, senior‑friendly housing, support for agriculture, and a strong local economy.
Both candidates framed their campaigns around community‑focused governance as the Fraser Valley region prepares for a significant turnover on municipal councils.
