Mississippi grand jury declines charges in death of Nolan Wells
A Mississippi grand jury has declined to bring criminal charges in the death of 18-year-old Nolan Wells. Wells, a Black college student, disappeared during a July boating trip on Horn Island while traveling with a group of white friends and was later found dead.
Reverend Al Sharpton, president of the National Action Network, has expressed strong disagreement with the grand jury's conclusion that there was no criminal wrongdoing. Sharpton noted that the state autopsy documented contusions on the back of Wells' head and found no water in his lungs, airways, or stomach. He stated he will not allow the decision to be the “final word” on the case.
Attorney Ben Crump has also raised concerns regarding the autopsy findings. The case has sparked significant racial tension and social media activism, with many users on the platform Threads calling for investigations into potential cover-ups and demanding justice.
