Taco Bell lettuce linked to US cyclospora outbreak, recall expands

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) traced a multi‑state cyclospora outbreak to shredded iceberg lettuce supplied by Taylor Farms in central Mexico and served at Taco Bell restaurants in Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and West Virginia.

CDC confirmed about 1,600 infections and 94 hospitalizations in those five states, while state health departments have reported more than 5,000 suspected cases nationwide.

Taco Bell removed the implicated lettuce from all locations, and Taylor Farms voluntarily recalled every iceberg lettuce product sourced from central Mexico, a recall that now covers distribution in 27 states. Walmart also pulled four salad products as a precaution.

Health officials warned the public not to eat shredded lettuce from Taco Bell and advised thorough washing of leafy greens. Mexican food‑safety agencies are working with U.S. authorities to verify the source and prevent further spread.
