Mississippi State athletics face postseason play and recruiting challenges

Mississippi State's women's soccer team prepares for its penultimate regular-season road match against LSU this Sunday. Having already clinched a berth in the SEC Tournament following a Tennessee loss, the Bulldogs aim to secure an eighth-place conference standing. The team has demonstrated defensive strength, recording five shutouts in eight SEC matches and allowing only three goals in their last six games, despite a recent scoring drought.

In football, Mississippi State faces difficulties on the recruiting trail for the 2027 cycle. The program currently ranks No. 48 nationally, placing it last among the 16 SEC programs. Head coach Jeff Lebby and his staff are working to overcome obstacles such as competing with powerhouse programs for Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) opportunities and improving facilities to attract elite prospects.
