Mississippi State athletics performance and outlook

Overview

Mississippi State football saw its College Football Playoff prospects decline following a 31-0 shutout loss to LSU. The defeat, characterized by offensive struggles and six turnovers, was expected to drop the team’s playoff probability to below 6%.

In other athletic developments, the women’s soccer team secured a berth in the SEC Tournament and focused on securing an eighth-place conference standing through defensive play. Meanwhile, the football program faced challenges in the 2027 recruiting cycle, currently ranking last among SEC programs as staff members work to address facility needs and competition for NIL opportunities.
