Mississippi State playoff hopes decline after LSU shutout

Mississippi State football’s prospects for the College Football Playoff have diminished significantly following a 31-0 shutout loss to LSU in Baton Rouge. Prior to the game, the Bulldogs held an estimated 13.6% to 15% chance of reaching the expanded 12-team playoff. Following this second loss of the season, that probability is expected to fall below 6%.

During the matchup, the Bulldogs struggled with offensive production, managing only 291 total yards and committing six turnovers. The team failed to sustain drives, including five consecutive possessions that ended in turnovers on downs. This defeat leaves the program with minimal margin for error within the SEC.
