Missouri authorities raid property after pet detective uncovers animal hoarding
Authorities in Lawrence County, Missouri, raided a property following an investigation by Melanie Self, a 37-year-old pet detective, which uncovered more than 100 animals living in poor conditions. The animals were found trapped in small cages and inside a dilapidated school bus.
One dog owner identified her missing Catahoula leopard dog after hearing its “unique bark” in the background of a Facebook video posted by Self. The property owner, 70-year-old Susan Berry, has been charged with animal neglect and felony animal theft. Approximately 20 residents in the rural community have reportedly contacted Self regarding missing or stolen pets.
