Sicily infrastructure projects focus on road safety and hydrogeological risks
Various infrastructure and maintenance projects are underway across Sicily to improve road safety and address hydrogeological risks.
In the province of Syracuse, the Libero Consorzio Comunale is executing a plan for road maintenance and requalification. Recent actions include cleaning an illegal landfill on the SP 73 near Noto and completing bitumization and signage work on the SP 56, SP 22, and SP 85. Further works on the SP 64 and SP 51 are scheduled for mid-September.
In the Catania-Paternò area, work is set to begin on a ramp of the SS 121 in Misterbianco. This project, costing nearly 800,000 euros, aims to secure a section closed since December 2020 due to ground instability.
Additionally, construction is resuming at the Corleone tunnel on the SS 118. The project was previously suspended for five months to address unexpected issues, including structural degradation and the presence of asbestos in the joints. The updated plan includes a 900,000 euro budget adjustment and a 150-day extension to ensure worker and user safety.
Other regional efforts include the reconstruction of the San Martino wall in Casalecchio following its collapse, and the planned redevelopment of Piazza Gramsci in Falconara, which will feature drainage-focused paving to mitigate flood risks.
