Mistral AI launches regional inference for EU and US data processing
Mistral AI, the Paris-based artificial intelligence startup founded in 2023, has launched its Regional Inference service. This feature allows customers to direct their queries to specific European or US endpoints to ensure data is processed within a chosen jurisdiction.
While positioned as a tool for European digital sovereignty, the service includes several limitations and costs. Users opting for regional processing must pay a ten percent surcharge compared to standard pricing. Additionally, the regional endpoints currently lack support for advanced features such as agents, batch processing, and file management.
Furthermore, the regionality of the service is not absolute. Mistral notes that account settings, billing, and access keys may still be processed outside the selected region, and there may be limited data transfers to subcontractors located elsewhere.
