Mitch Winehouse ordered to pay nearly £1 million to Amy Winehouse’s friends
A London High Court ruled that Mitch Winehouse, administrator of his late daughter’s estate, must pay almost £950,000 to Naomi Parry and Catriona Gourlay. The judge ordered interim payments of £569,330 to Parry and £394,521 to Gourlay, plus legal costs on an indemnity basis. The court found that Winehouse knew the auction of Amy Winehouse’s personal items was planned and only later brought a “weak and aggressive” claim, which significantly damaged the women’s reputations, careers, financial security and health.
Between 2021 and 2023 the two women auctioned about 150‑155 items – clothing, handbags, jewellery and a dress from Amy’s final tour – raising roughly US$1.4 million, intended for the Amy Winehouse Foundation. Judge Sarah Clarke criticised Winehouse’s conduct as unreasonable and ordered the damages and costs to be paid within two weeks.
