Mitchell's Causeway repair in NSW delays reopening until 2027

Transport for NSW has deployed a 76‑tonne piling rig to Mount Victoria to rebuild the damaged Mitchell's Causeway on the Great Western Highway. The project involves removing the existing road surface, installing new bridge foundations and support piles, with more than 120 workers on site.

The target completion date is set for the second quarter of 2027, meaning the corridor will stay restricted for over 15 months and motorists will face nearly a year of disruption. Local businesses and commuters say the extended timeline strains regional supply chains and tourism.

The NSW government announced an additional $20 million support package for affected businesses, but Federal MP Andrew Gee criticised the amount as inadequate and questioned the lack of cost transparency. Roads Minister Jenny Aitchison said the total construction cost has not yet been determined.
