Mitsubishi ASX VR-e electric SUV to launch in 2026

Mitsubishi has announced the upcoming launch of the ASX VR-e, an all-electric crossover scheduled to arrive in Australia and New Zealand in the fourth quarter of 2026. The vehicle is not an in-house development but is produced through a partnership with Foxtron, the automotive arm of the Taiwanese electronics manufacturer Foxconn.

The ASX VR-e is closely based on the Foxtron Bria, a vehicle designed by the Italian design house Pininfarina. While it shares the Bria's platform and core design, Mitsubishi will implement its own styling for the front and rear fascias, wheels, and interior trim. The brand has also conducted local testing and tuning to optimize ride and handling for the Australian and New Zealand markets.

The model name, VR-e, is a tribute to the historic Galant VR-4. The vehicle is expected to be offered in several trim levels, including LS, Aspire, Exceed, and a high-performance GSR grade. While specific technical specifications for the region are still being finalized, the vehicle is expected to feature a battery capacity around 57.5 kWh and may offer both rear-wheel drive and dual-motor all-wheel drive configurations.
