Mitsubishi ASX VR-e electric SUV launch
Overview
Mitsubishi has introduced the ASX VR-e, an electric vehicle developed through a partnership with the Taiwanese manufacturer Foxtron, a subsidiary of Foxconn. The vehicle is largely based on the Foxtron Bria model, sharing a nearly identical interior and chassis, with differences limited primarily to exterior branding, logos, and wheel designs. This development also involves the Italian design firm Pininfarina to tailor specific styling for the front, rear, cabin, and wheels.
The ASX VR-e is expected to offer two configurations. A rear-wheel-drive base model features approximately 230 horsepower and a 57.7-kWh LFP battery, providing an estimated NEDC driving range of 516 km (320 miles). An all-wheel-drive variant delivers approximately 400 horsepower, achieving 0 to 100 km/h (0-60 mph) in 3.9 seconds, with a range of approximately 466 km (290 miles). The vehicle supports 134-kW DC fast charging, which can charge the battery from 10% to 80% in 30 minutes.
While availability in Europe or Brazil has not been confirmed, Mitsubishi has announced that the model will be sold in Australia and New Zealand. Specifically, the rollout in the New Zealand market is planned for the fourth quarter of 2026, featuring four different grades: GSR, Exceed, XLS, and LS. The ASX VR-e will follow the Outlander Sport HEV as part of Mitsubishi’s next-generation electrified model rollout. These developments are part of the company’s ‘Momentum 2030’ mid-term management plan, which focuses on electrification and product lineup expansion.
