Mitsubishi Pajero flagship SUV set for 2026 relaunch in Japan

Mitsubishi is preparing to relaunch its flagship Pajero SUV, marking the fifth generation of the model. Following a global debut on September 2, 2026, the vehicle is scheduled to begin pre-orders in Japan on October 1, 2026.

The new Pajero features a 2.4-liter four-cylinder clean diesel engine producing 150kW (204 hp) and 480N·m of torque, paired with a newly developed 8-speed automatic transmission. The vehicle utilizes a ladder frame chassis to enhance torsional rigidity and a suspension system consisting of double A-arms at the front and a five-link rigid axle at the rear.

All models will include the Super Select 4WD-II system integrated with Mitsubishi’s S-AWC technology. The Japanese lineup will consist of four grades: SUPER EXCEED, EXCEED, GSR, and GLS. Seating configurations vary, with the GLS offering 5 seats and the higher trims providing 7 seats. Estimated pricing in Japan ranges from approximately 6.19 million yen to 7.95 million yen.
