Mitsubishi Motors has officially launched the fifth-generation Pajero (also known as the Montero or Shogun) in Thailand, marking the flagship SUV’s return after a multi-year hiatus. Produced at the Laem Chabang plant, the vehicle is available in three variants: the GLS 2.4 8AT 4x2, the GSR 2.4 8AT 4x2, and the top-tier Super Exceed 2.4 8AT 4x4. The Super Exceed trim features S-AWC all-wheel drive, AYC torque vectoring, and MiPilot Level 2 semi-autonomous technology.
Following the Thai launch on October 19, shipments are scheduled for Australia and Japan, with Japanese sales expected to begin in mid-December 2026. A broader rollout to approximately 100 countries, including the Middle East and Latin America, is slated for 2027.
Technical specifications for the new model include an updated 2.4-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine derived from the Triton. To comply with Euro 6d emissions standards, the Pajero will require the use of AdBlue to reduce nitrous oxide (NOx) emissions. Mitsubishi Australia product strategy manager Rod Pinedo noted that while this adds a maintenance element for owners, it allows the vehicle to meet stricter criteria than competitors like the Toyota Prado and Ford Everest. The vehicle claims a fuel economy as low as 7.1L/100km.
As part of the ‘Momentum 2030’ strategy, President Keisuke Kishiura announced plans to expand the Pajero nameplate to include compact and small SUV models. Additionally, Mitsubishi is reintroducing the L200 pickup to Europe and the UK, and introducing the Destinator, a midsize three-row SUV for the ASEAN region.
