Mitsubishi Pajero returns as flagship off-road SUV

Mitsubishi Motors has officially unveiled the fifth-generation Pajero (also known as the Montero in certain markets), marking the return of its flagship off-road SUV after a multi-year hiatus. The new model is designed to compete in the premium rugged SUV segment against vehicles like the Toyota Land Cruiser.

Built on a modified ladder-frame platform shared with the Mitsubishi Triton pickup, the Pajero emphasizes traditional off-road capability combined with modern refinement. It features a 2.4-liter turbodiesel engine producing 204 horsepower and 480 Nm of torque, paired with a newly developed eight-speed automatic transmission. Key driving technologies include the Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) and Super Select 4WD-II systems.

The vehicle's interior adopts a more premium direction, featuring a seven-seat configuration, high-quality materials, and a digital ‘monolith display’ that modernizes the brand’s iconic triple multi-meter heritage. Production will begin in Thailand, with initial launches scheduled for Japan and Australia within the 2026 fiscal year. From 2027, the model is expected to roll out to approximately 100 countries, including markets across the ASEAN region, Latin America, and the Middle East.
