Mitsubishi revives Pajero lineup with new off‑road models

Mitsubishi confirmed that the legendary Pajero will return after a five‑year hiatus. The new generation will be built on a ladder‑frame chassis derived from the Triton/L200 pickup, featuring four‑wheel drive and a robust suspension tuned for off‑road capability and on‑road comfort. Powertrain options are expected to include the 2.4‑liter twin‑turbo diesel used in the Triton, with a hybrid variant based on Outlander‑PHEV technology also under consideration. Production is slated for Thailand, with a global launch planned for autumn 2026 (sales beginning in 2027). Mitsubishi also outlined a broader rollout of 13 new models through 2032, covering SUVs, pickups, minivans and electric vehicles.

In parallel, Mitsubishi announced a strategic partnership with Nissan to develop a new mid‑size pickup for the U.S. market, sharing a forthcoming body‑on‑frame platform scheduled for around 2028. The collaboration aims to give Mitsubishi a presence in the high‑volume American truck segment without establishing its own plant in the United States.

These moves signal Mitsubishi’s effort to re‑establish its off‑road heritage and expand its product portfolio across key regions, particularly Japan, the United States and Southeast Asia.
