Mitsubishi to Relaunch Pajero/Montero SUV Targeting Toyota Land Cruiser Segment
Mitsubishi held a closed‑door launch near Chicago in early June, inviting about 180 dealers from the United States and Canada. The event unveiled the company's Momentum 2030 strategy and confirmed the return of the Pajero SUV under the Montero name for the North American market. The new model will use a body‑on‑frame chassis shared with the Triton pickup, feature a ground clearance of roughly 305 mm, and aim at the professional off‑road segment, directly competing with Toyota’s Land Cruiser and Land Cruiser Prado.
The SUV is expected to launch around 2030 and may be offered with a diesel‑turbo 2.4‑litre engine producing about 204 hp and 470 Nm of torque, as well as a potential hybrid variant. Design cues include a squared‑off exterior, LED lighting strips, and a spacious three‑row cabin. Mitsubishi's plan positions the Montero as a flagship off‑road vehicle to revitalize its portfolio in the United States and Canada.
