Mitsubishi Pajero set for global comeback with new model launch planned for 2026
Mitsubishi Motors announced that the Pajero (known as Montero in some markets) will return after a five‑year hiatus. The new generation is slated to debut globally in the autumn of 2026, built on a ladder‑frame chassis shared with the Triton pickup and featuring a boxy, off‑road‑oriented design with a vertical windshield and flat bonnet. The rollout will include at least two new Pajero SUVs, with a roadmap that foresees 13 new model launches between FY26 and FY31. Power‑train options are expected to span conventional diesel, petrol‑electric hybrids and fully electric variants, while the brand may use the Pajero name across a family of models rather than a single vehicle. Production is likely to be centred in Thailand for the ASEAN region, and the revived nameplate could be marketed as Montero in Europe and North America. The revival aims to restore Mitsubishi’s presence in the competitive off‑road SUV segment against rivals such as the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado and Ford Everest.
