Miyeon of (G)I-DLE reported for alleged medical law violations

A formal complaint has been filed against Miyeon, a member of the K-pop group (G)I-DLE, alleging a violation of South Korean medical laws. The complaint follows the release of a video on her YouTube channel documenting her first health checkup at age 30, which included footage of a sedated gastric endoscopy.

An anonymous informant submitted a petition via the government’s ‘e-People’ portal to the Yongsan-gu Public Health Center in Seoul. The petitioner argues that the video may constitute illegal medical advertising because it reveals the name of a specific medical institution, its staff, and its facilities.

Specific concerns raised include scenes showing the administration of sedatives, the insertion of the endoscope, and text on a wall identifying the facility as a ‘Specialized Hospital for Gastroscopy and Colonoscopy.’ The investigation will seek to determine if the content violates current medical laws and whether the facility’s designation as a specialized hospital was used appropriately.
