Investigation into Miyeon of (G)I-DLE medical advertising

A formal complaint was filed against Miyeon, a member of the K-pop group (G)I-DLE, following the release of a YouTube video documenting her health checkup and a sedated gastric endoscopy. An anonymous petitioner submitted a complaint via the ‘e-People’ portal to the Yongsan-gu Public Health Center, alleging the video constituted illegal medical advertising by revealing the name of a specific institution, its staff, and its facilities.

Following the complaint, the Yongsan-gu Health Center requested a police investigation to determine if the content violated the Medical Service Act, which prohibits third parties from advertising medical services and restricts the depiction of explicit medical procedures. The health center also issued administrative guidance to the medical facility for being referred to as a ‘specialized hospital’ when it is registered as a clinic.

Production staff for the YouTube channel ‘Jeondosa’ have denied any wrongdoing, asserting they received no financial support or sponsorship from the medical institution and that all medical expenses were paid directly by the crew.
