Mizoram police and Assam Rifles seize heroin worth 12.09 crore rupees

In two coordinated operations in the Saihaul district of Mizoram, the Assam Rifles and Mizoram Police seized heroin valued at approximately 12.09 crore rupees and arrested two individuals.

In the first operation conducted in the Ngopa area, authorities recovered 1.180 kilograms of heroin, consisting of 109 soap-shaped bars, hidden in a specially constructed compartment behind a vehicle's rear number plate. The seized drugs are estimated to be worth 8.85 crore rupees. A vehicle used in the transport was also confiscated.

A second operation in the same area led to the seizure of 432 grams of heroin, worth approximately 3.24 crore rupees, found in a hidden packet during a vehicle check. This operation resulted in the arrest of 57-year-old Devendra Singh from Muzaffarpur, Bihar, and the seizure of a truck.

The suspects, drugs, and vehicles have been handed over to the Mizoram Police for legal action under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985. The region remains a significant corridor for drug trafficking due to its unfenced international borders with Myanmar and Bangladesh.
